An open letter to the fashion industry is getting steam.

Recently, a group of CEO's, designers, buyers and executives published an open call to action for the fashion industry to discuss ways in which business needs to transform.

Due to pandemic and stores been forced to close around the globe, businesses have been pushed to pivot into a more reliable system which includes reconsidering their supply chains and to slower the furious pace of the fashion industry which has only exacerbated, during the global crisis caused by Covid-19, to be unsustainable.

"We agreed that the current environment although challenging, presents an opportunity for a fundamental and welcome change that will simplify our businesses, making them more environmentally and socially sustainable and ultimately align them more closely with customers’ needs". The letter reads.

The main three point the letter discuss are:

  • Put the Autumn/Winter season back in winter (August/January) and Spring/Summer season back in summer (February/July)

  • Create a more balanced flow of deliveries through the season to provide newness but also time for products to create desire

  • Discount at the end of the season in order to allow for more full-price selling – January for Autumn/Winter and July for Spring/Summer

Some of the signatories include Gabriela Hearst, Margherita Maccapani Missoni, Lisa Marie Fernandez, Pierre Hardy and Christopher Turnier, Riccardo Bellini, Mary Katrantzou, Rachel Comey and many more.
